Rev. Raedorah Stewart, M.Div

A native Texan, Rev. Raedorah C. Stewart relocated to the District three years ago and soon after joined Covenant BUCC. She is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary (Pasadena, CA) and the State of Texas Law Enforcement Academy. Stewart was licensed in an American Baptist Church (USA) congregation, ordained as a pastor by the Full Gospel Baptist Church, and ordained as a deacon by the Presbyterian Church (USA). She participates in silent retreats at Catholic centers and finds strength in African iconography.

Reverend Stewart serves the Body of Christ and creation as a preacher, poet, painter, mother, and scholar. As a member of the Covenant BUCC Ministerial Team for the past three years, she uses her gifts on special assignments from the pastors: Project Coordinator of our partnership with George Washington Hospital Cancer Center’s LGBT Breast Cancer Awareness program; Coordinator of the Lecture Lounge--a quarterly series of academic lectures that bridge scholarship and faith; and Developer of the Fig Tree Giving campaign to teach giving as an accessible and affordable spiritual discipline regardless of income status.

Rev. Stewart’s ministry axis is Psalm 45:1, “My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.” Her calling as a writer and scholar extends to her appointment as Faculty Director of the Writing Center at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC where she teaches academic writing and critical thinking to emerging leaders and scholars. Rev. Stewart has presented, published, and served in leadership in the American Academy of Religion (AAR) for over two decades in the areas of womanist theology, black theology, lesbian feminism, the bible in racial-ethnic context, the arts and religion, and disability studies and religion; and currently serves the Committee for Persons with Disabilities in the Profession to moderate universal design workshops on technology and pedagogy for online learning in seminaries.

As a bi-vocational minister, Rev. Stewart is CEO of iWrite.Solutions LLC, a DC-based writing consulting firm specializing in academic, religious, and non-profit content, speech writing, editing, book indexing, and web design. Additionally, she serves as Venue Manager for area film festivals (Reel Affirmations International LGBT, DC Shorts International, Jewish, American Film Institute, and Environmental); and vets television shows for the CINE Eagle Awards.

Rev. Stewart is the birth mother of a trans millennial who is a notable author and sociologist on gender, race, and class; and the spirit mother of daughters and sons who live equally as boldly and audacious as intellectuals, artists, and parents. Equally important to Rev. Stewart’s spiritual journey and life’s joy is her mother--her first teacher and best student.
