At our church...

In June, the DC Baptist Convention purchased the property at Yuma Street for $4,000 and transferred the title to the congregation known as Washington Highlands Baptist Church. In October, Washington Highlands Baptist Church was renamed Covenant Baptist Church with Rev. Harry How becoming the church's first pastor.

In the Black community...

1945 is what many scholars consider to be the start of the American Civil Rights Movement. It kicked off over two decades of pivotal social change and landmark legislation and Supreme Court decisions.

Ebony magazine published its first issue on November 1st.

Jackie Robinson joined the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues. He also played in the 1945 Negro League All-Star Game.

Around the world...

Harry S. Truman became President of the United States of America.

On September 2nd, Japan surrendered bringing World War II to an end. By the end of the war, over 1 million African American men and women had served in the U.S. military, starting with the Revolutionary War.
